I give up
yep. Title says it all.
Honestly, I thought this was too hard. Not only was the process hard, but so was making this decision. Now, I realized that I came in to this project feeling way too ambitious, going all out with the idea making rather than the actual making. Even then, the game concept alone wasn’t really interesting or unique enough to really be worth making an entire game for. This main mechanic fits a puzzle game way more than it does an adventure one. But noooo, I felt like doing a full-on puzzle game was taking the easy way out and wasn’t what I wanted to do in the first place. So, after months of struggling with this project and going nowhere, I quit.
While this may seem like a big old waste of time and may even cause someone else to lose all hope, I’m taking it as a necessary lesson as I start my journey into the real world of game making. Now that I know how much is too much, I can cut back more and more to make things reasonable and to keep my ambition in check.
I know this might be a big shock and disappointment to the thousands of you who read this Devlog intently and have been waiting so long for my game to come out, but, I’m sorry, it has to be done. It’s okay if some of you resent me or even want to take the game concept and make it yourself. I completely understand and give you full permission to do so. I just don’t think it’s really me who can do it. Not alone, at least.
Moving forward, I will be going back to making simple, little games/prototypes like I have for all of the games posted on this itch page and put a pin in all of the big ideas I’ve had, saving them for something later down the line or to pass on to those who have the time, skills, and will to make it a reality.
To close things off, I want to again give my deepest apologies for the disappointment this will bring, but want to at least tell you all what has been going on these last few months. Later in the day, I will provide a video showing the last build of the game so you can see where this will be stagnating at. I’m not quite sure how to end this off, so I will just say that I hope in the future, I can fully make something you all will love.
Sorry and thanks,
